August in Edinburgh is crowded: the Fringe and the Military Tattoo overlap, and rooms cost the most of the year, so decide early. Elsewhere the month is quieter and more varied, with the second Palio race in Siena on 16 August, Sendai Tanabata on 6 to 8 August and Notting Hill Carnival on the last weekend.
The Perseids peak around 12 and 13 August under a bright moon in 2027, which will hide the fainter meteors. Dates carry the pencil mark until an organiser confirms them.
