About London Chinese New Year Celebrations and Parade
The London Chinatown Chinese Association organises the annual Chinese New Year celebrations in Chinatown, together with the Mid-Autumn Festival. The association says the celebrations draw hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, and describes them as the biggest celebration of Chinese New Year held outside Asia.
The 2027 edition starts on 7 February, in London, England.
Admission is expected to be free and open to the public, with no ticket needed. This has not yet been confirmed for the 2027 edition.
What happens
A parade of handcrafted floats from China, with Chinese dragon and lion teams, runs from east of Trafalgar Square to Shaftesbury Avenue in Chinatown.
A family corner at Dean Street and Shaftesbury Avenue offers interactive cultural workshops and family games. Afterwards, the parade floats are displayed on Shaftesbury Avenue.
History and meaning
Since 2002, the LCCA has been the organiser of London's Chinese New Year festivities in Chinatown and Trafalgar Square.
What to expect
At Leicester Square, stands show Chinese culture, with Konghou music performances and chances to try brush calligraphy and heritage painting.
In Chinatown, visitors find special festive menus, lion dances along the streets, and stalls selling New Year decorations and traditional handicrafts.
Practical tips
Roads are closed and parking is suspended during the celebrations, so public transport is the advised way to travel.
Admission is expected to be free, with no ticket needed, though this is not yet confirmed.
